belly pan on trip?
Hi all!
Im off to morocco soon, and ive seen lots of pic's and vids of the roads, and they dont look good.
So im thinking...
Should i remove the expensive belly pan from my boxercup, in case it becomes damaged? and put a cheap one on from ebay???
or just leave it off for the trip???
any advice?
thanks
Aaron

I'm sure there's an equation that should help you decide...................
Morroco + Belly Pan = £-1,400
Sorted!
Good luck - I'm guessing it may be the first BCR on Morrocan soil

On the subject of belly pans, does anyone know if you can get one to fit an 11S with a centre stand.
I fancy fitting one but I have'nt seen any advertised for a bike with the stand fitted.
Cheers, Cobbster.

I had a suspicion that you were reluctant to take pics of your bike there, looking a bit "nekid"
I guess the fibreglass pan, painted blue would look pretty good (don't reckon there'll be any pics of it on your return journey though )
I still can't believe you're taking the BCR to Morroco................ I worry about taking mine to Tescos You need to have a look at some of the pics of Saunders' round the world R-1 to convince you, I think.
What are the rest of the lads riding?

(there is a lot to be said for making a good "copy" and keeping the Carbonfibre one safe - I don't think they are available now, and if they are............... who would buy one??)

IMHO Morocco is fine for any type of bike ... the roads are pretty good between the major points (hell, the even have a bit of motorway up the north west coast) ... you can get to Erfoud easy but things get interesting after that on the way to Merzouga and Erg Chebbi (the first of the proper cathedral dunes and true Sahara type stuff). But I have heard that even that is OK now - maybe even paved.
Biggest things you will have to watch for ... kids lobbing themselves at you from the road side trying to sell you crystals or asking for a cadeau (gift) ... locals have a tendency to mark crashes with stones, move the vehicle and leave the stones behind so watch for those at night (Actually - try to avoid riding at night - same as India ... but I always do cos I'm stupid) Up north in the Rif (Kif country) you will get dealers with bricks of hashish jumping out too ... not that I recommend that sort of thing but it is the best quality you will find in the world
Ziz Valley is a bit of a winner
Merzouga might be a push but think of the photos!
Todra (or Dades next door) gorges might be tricky but the tour buses get up there a way so why not
Tiz N Test pass over the High Atlas without question - ice cold beer in Marrakech to celebrate
Essaouira is a nice spot on the Atlantic Coast to chill out too
But then again I was then for 8 weeks on an XT600 with a copy of Chris Scott's trail guide ... so I might be leading you astray
Oh, it was a belly pan question! Take if off and stop posing you tart Those Berbers will have it stripped off and on eBay in Mauritania within seconds

I've just bought a second hand one of the fleabay Only trouble is it's a 04 one (red and blue) My intension is to have that one done up in the Randy colour scheme and fit that to the bike while I have the original repainted and put into storage.
However, I have just had a quote from Wollaston BMW the decals for a Randy bellypan
£233.05 Yes, thats right, £233.05 for some bloody stickers It wouldn't be so bad if they were just graphics, but these are free bloody advertising for the companies involved
Does anyone know where I can get some new decals cut
PS: sensible idea using a cheap copy for the trip

lol Thanks for the comprehensive advice horse27, u put my mind at ease now.
we travelling down the west coast to Marrakech, then up the east side via Fez, the east side up seems to be the "not so good" (roads) side?
ive bought a cheap fibre glass belly pan just to add a bit of protection.
cant wait!
next concern is the heat? lol

Al, one going on 1150GS and other on VFR800. should be ok
U comin? he he
You'll be fine compared to the VFR, that's for sure.............
Morroco has never held too much appeal for me, I'm afraid - I'd prefer the scenery of Norway, Iceland or the likes
Nothing worse than "sweaty boxers"
