R1200R sales about to go up

This months Bike mag should help shift a few more R1200R's and I wouldn't mind one myself.

I had a loan of the R1200R whilst my R1200ST was in for a service. The R is a good bike, wide bars made it very manoeverable around town, it was comfortable, and somewhat lighter than the faired bikes such as the RT or ST. I have always loved boxer twins, and this type of bike makes far more sense for general town riding or touring than any big single.

Only downside was the lack of any sort of screen meant motorway speeds became a pain. I noticed that the R tested by Bike had a small screen; a necessary option.

The R12R is a hoot - I loved the quick spin I had on one. Shame it's not so pretty.

I'd have one over a GS any day of the week. Best Boxer BMW make imo. :)

My mate is after one of these. He is a bit short in the leg. I got him into bmws and saved him from buying a Triumph Thunderbird I advised him to look at at an F650 (he was a newbie, family man, professional job blah blah) Hes had it for 3 years and went to Garmisch on it with Barry Robsons Mob they ripped the pee out of him (but he can handle all that banter) hes now come round to the proper bmw bikes :) Another convert.

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Alan thinks his is the best bike he has owned, I must admit its probably a better ALL Rounder than the S, I would'nt have a problem owning one. As I see it the biggest problem is the price of the thing--Was in Astle BMW last week and looked at a 1200R they have in stock, ABS_ESA & Alarm but no screen and it was over 10 grand, Need to be a hardcore BMW fan to even think about it.

The R1200R may be indeed the best horse in BMW's stable,maybe anybodies stable!
The biggest european moto-mag MOTORRAD declared it in this years Alpenmasters the Alpenkoenig or best bike to make fast progress on southern france alpine passes.
Best engine,handling,brakes,good seating position as also the ability to take passenger/luggage.
High praise beating bikes like KTMs 690 Supermoto,Triumph Tiger,Yamaha Fazer,Z1000,1250Bandit,Hornet 600,600RR,GSXR750,1098 and R1...
If it wasn't for looks and windprotection of my R1100S I probably would have one already myself...

Agreed - BMW should've pitched it more as a basic, sort of 'entry level' Boxer ie a cheaper bike for those who want the engine/general feel but don't want to spend big bucks on the RT etc etc.

8.5k for the bike, without any extras, is ludicrous.

Once had the outgoing 1150R as a loan bike; had to it ride 70 miles in torrential rain to get home :shock:

You can easily forget how unprotected you are from the weather on a naked bike.

I'm sure the 1200R is great for a fine weather blast but personally I prefer something with a little more protection from the elements.

I think BMW should have kept the price down but jazzed it up a bit a la Guzzi 1200 Sport. MCN showed a Wunderlich makeover for the 1200R the other day along the lines of the R90/S complete with the orange fade paint job.
