thinking of adding an R75/6 to my garage

Postby Lars1974 » Thu Dec 20, 2007 9:12 pm

hi all,
i am thinking about buying an old Beemer to add to my S. i thinking of maybe getting a nice old BMW R75 /6 750cc.
Does anyone here has any experience with these and what to look out for....other than the usual stuff....

i am thinking of spending between £1500 and £2000 so it should get me something decent...

You thoughts are most welcome.

thx Lars

Hi Harry,

Thanks for your comment,
i am not fixed on the model so i mentioned the R75/6 as an example as i have seen one at a dealer -see below

BMW R75 /6 750cc , 1975 , RED/BLACK. Very clean condition with handsome original paintwork. Lots of service history including old MOT certificates. Fitted with windscreen. Will be sold fully serviced and ready to use! A very honest example of these sought after classics! £1,750
...
i would not mind getting something older...of maybe a nice R80.
i want the bike just as something i can keep cleaning and riding out on sundays as something different...maybe its a sign that i am getting older.... :D

anyway, thanks for your comments i will check these things out...

thx Lars

I check out their site now and again too. I've had my eye on the R75/5 for a while but I don't have the room :-(

I have to say that, after many years of BMW ownership, that the best one that I ever owned was a R75/7 which I bought new on the 21st September 1977, at the age of 18. If I ever found another the same, I would buy it without hesitation.

There have been several go through e-bay in the last few weeks, the only way to buy a bike of that age is to go private, going through a dealer, their just going to have your trousers down,do your homework, cuz buying a bike of that age,if you ain't clued up,will be like jumping into a financial black hole, unless you can do everything yourself, and on that basis you'd back your own judgement and buy private anyway.

But ride a BM at 18 years of age, kin'ell
