Just felt I had to join in briefly on this one guys: My bike is a 2004 '54 plate that has got 5600 miles on it & it won't be going anywhere near a stealer for the 6000 mile service because I can get the genuine parts myself from the dealer if I so desire & get my usual guy to do the work & he won't charge me £83 per hour for the priveledge of violating my anal area.... Secondly I run my own business, & when a customer brings a job in to me & says "just get on with it" I ALWAYS phone them with a final price - which I stick to, I don't ever want to be in the position where I'm accused of having someones pants down - so if I can manage to do this then why, why, fu44ing why can't the sodding stealers? There, that's it I've had my rant - me & my trusty soap box are separated once again - thanks guys.
service
Leaskey, I missed this thread last May. Thats bloody horrendous! Glad they seem to to have got their just desserts.
I put my bike my bike into Astle (Grimsby) 2 weeks ago for its 36k service (the only dealer service my bike is getting). I know they they have not got the best of reviews on this forum for their ability. I would just like to say, they did the service plus replacing the fork seals which sprung a leak on the way to the service for the price quoted. I know they would have struggled to get the mudguard off, I know, having sworn my way my way doing the same 2 years ago, steel screws and and alloy fork legs just don't mix. Anyway, I thought them to be most reasonable.
PS : £280 for the 36k service plus £200 for the fork seals, what you think?

To be honest Winny, I may not be the best person to ask; I am sure there are others on here who can give you a better opinion, but it is cheaper than what I ended up paying last year for the 30k.
I have taken the advice of the guys who have responded and I will not be bothering with anymore BMW stamps in the service book. The bike is 6 yrs old now and has 32k on the clock with a value (on a good day) of less then 3k and thats with all the goodies.
I suppose that the alarm bells have to start ringing when the cost of a service equates to almost 20 percent of the entire value of the machine!
Anyhow, its been great to get all the feed-back and the advice has been taken on-board.
Hope to see some of guys later in the year.
Cheers for noo!
Leasky.

Service costs
Just my two-penneth worth
BMW Dealers Bath Road Motorcycles, Bristol where ive bought afew bikes do a simple quote.
£195 all in for a 6k service and £295 for a 12k, based on what ive paid for kawasaki's and triumphs etc i'd say that was about right.

Some BMW dealers think;
1. you have too much money.
2. you are stupid.
In some cases they are right but not all of the time.
They can try it on a bit.
Find more realistic ways of maintaining a bike which is out of warranty.
My brother in law was told his R1200C had borderline tyres and warped discs on a bike with just 7000 miles. They think you are just going to say 'Ok just do it'
His tyres were ok for a couple of thou and there's still nothing wrong with the discs.
Sometimes they like to crap on their own doorstep.

Jeffries rang me this week touting for business.
They came approx 20 miles to pick up my bike, took it for the 6k service, changed the primary plugs because they werent performing right (I'd asked them to look at the mapping or running because the bike was vibrating) and then returned the bike.
Immediately on startup it's sounding better and its also running just about bang on.
£168 (oil free as part of their touting bit) plus they did the plugs on warranty. Got to be happy at that.
