I'm thinking of having the old girl resprayed in the spring (that's the bike not the wife) can anyone recommend somewere in the s/east, London area. Preferably top class workmanship and cheap :o

What do you call cheap? I seriously though about this but received several quotes IRO £700 for a single colour respray, which rather dampened my enthusiasm. Steve Bonas had his done for about £200 in a place up near Stowmarket, however he's now talking about having it done again after about a year (of admittedly hard usage).

What are you planning to do? A new single colour or a multi-colour design?

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

At the risk of putting the damper on things,paint comes in two kinds, cheap and crap,or exspensive and nice and that includes haveing you crash helmet painted,i had two rear side panels done and the headlight surround which definetly fall into the former for 150 quid,all the money is in the prep,when i was looking to have my Arai painted i had quotes of 3 to 400 pounds got it done for 125 but don't look to close.

I only want the two main fairing panels done, as my knees have worn through the (black the fastest colour)paint, should have bought those rubber Wunderlich thingys I guess.

When I say cheap, I mean not the £350 I was quoted for painting the wheels which in the end i had powdercoated for £60 the pair. Admittedly after 2 winters they are not as shiny as they used to be, but for that money I'll just have them done again. :)

Consider having the indicator pods (hand protectors) done as well, particularly if it's a dark colour you are looking to do.

Save your self some money by prepping the parts yourself.All it takes is time and patience.Hey and while your about it,have a go at painting them yourself.It aint hard doing block colours,just time and patience again.I will be doing mine myself.Painted my arai myself and was extremly pleased with results.You can hire paint shops by the hour,or hire/buy kit and do it in the comfort of your own home/garage.What have ou got to lose!

Thanks chaps, Gus, I've done plenty of spraying in my time with some excellent showroom type finishes, but unfortunately for every good one there's been a shite one. :(

Try spraying it yourself, if you mix hardener into the paint youu'll het a better lasting finsh than the original. Most new bikes are covered in water based paint and this doesn't last well (look at the bottom of the fork legs). I've sprayed various panels in single colours and they look fine + their also laquered which helps. Give it a go if it's a single colour you're after.

Try Maypole Coachworks. Just off the A3 at the Chessington World Of Adventures exit. They basically get all the Accident repair work that comes off the A3 as they have a fleet of recovery trucks.

They've done an old BSA tank for me (part paint/ part chrome) and they did the plastic rear bumper on my wife's Golf. I have never found them expensive and they have proper facilities (e.g. for baking the paint etc).

The respray of the bumper has been excellent - perfect colour match and excellent durability (I know of lots of plastic resprays where the paint flakes off in sheets a couple of months later). No such issue and I Jet Wash it every week.
