Creaking sound from backend

Post by plivez »

Hi Guys.
I have just returned from a great few days at Magny-Cours for the world superbike last race. Well done James Toseland (world Champ).

I covered about 1000 miles all at silly speeds.
I have now noticed a creaking sound from the back end when I bounce the suspention up and down.
Sounds like a creaking door.
It seems to come from the area of the UV joint, but am not sure.

Any suggestions to the cause please??

Hi
Sounds like the rear paralever bearings are kaput.Do a search in the tech section and all will be revealed on how to diagnose and repair.

Mine did the same thing when the paralever bearings packed in. It's not too expensive especially if you know someone who is handy with the spanners.

Thanks.

I have another trip arranged for the coming week, probably another 1000 miles. Will it be okay to use it, I won't have time to sort it before then.

Hi
I would change them before you do your trip. They are not expensive and the job is quite easy if you have the right tools. There is a detailed explanation on how to do them yourself in the tech section.
You dont want them completley failing on your trip leaving you stranded or worse!
Look after your bike and it will take care of you. :) Karma mode on

might sound weird, but give the rear brake hose and speedo cable thing a wiggle. my bike creaked just as you described if I sat on it and bounced up and down.

If it is the paralever bearings you might be able to get away with just tightening them up a tad.

Thanks Guys.

I have given everything a good tug and it all seems tight, no movement in the paralever / wheel. I have not heard the sound since. It was only after a prolonged high spped session.

So I am going to leave it for now. The next trip is going to be a lot more sedate.

Pretty sure it is the bearing in the paralever. I will have a go at it when I get back. Let you know how it goes.

Will be looking advice re replacing the bearing!!

Don't know anything about paralever bearings, but I know I like the girlies

They look better than the lycra-clad bimbos at the traditional bike shows, for sure.

Feel free to post more pics :hello1:

Honda are now selling the CBR600RR in Hanspree colours......... looks bloody nice too :thumbleft: - saw it at my local Honda dealer the other day.
