Keep up folks, the smart London set use this Classic Mercedes Tool

Brown oil is a sign of water/ rust. Also a sign of cheap nasty oil!
Happens lots on 'short run' vehicles where the engine doesn't reach optimum running temp.

Redline shockproof oil goes browny red with age, no water involved. Don't ask how I know. :oops:

Hi all

Made a few phone calls with regard to the fitting of a seal, according to a couple of dealers, no washer is fitted as the plug is tapered, hence the need to tighten the plug to 55nm.

The parts cats also does not show a seal.

So now I can refill the gearbox for the weekend and see how mobil gear oil performs.

Joe's Mobil gear oil is proof of rider's sensitivity! If you dont notice the improvement, I'd recommend cutting down on the neck oil. :D

I got it on ebay Califiornia USA after reading about them on on the Pelican board.

On the topic of the 14mm hex issue...I brought one from Coulsdon Auto's earlier today for under £2.
I guess car's have large hex drain plugs too as that's what it was labelled as!
I got the last one in stock though. :P

Aye, but does it fit between plug and the exhaust collar???

Just...but there's no way I can get a socket on there. However the hex bit is long enough to get a spanner on it.
