BCR Laser exhaust baffles....

Post by bcr_rep05 »

Hi everyone,

I just recently bought an '05 BCR (my first BMW bike !).
I have Remus cans coming with the bike but what I was wonder was
can the baffles be removed from the original Laser system that's fitted
standard to the '05 model ?
I had a quick look but there doesn't seem to be any obvious way of
removing them.
Having said that, are the Remus cans any good ??

Thanks,
Mark.

Think you just have to use a small drill or Dremel-type die-grinder to remove the spot weld at the tailpipe that holds the baffle in.

Andrew S's last BCR had just that mod :D

I keep meaning to do the same

Al :D
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

Hi Al,

I must have a look for those welds. Either that or I'll just wait til the
Remus pipes arrive........I need more noise !!!

Mark,

Al is right and my old BCR did have the baffles removed from the Laser's. However it was Nigel Wood who removed them, so I am sure he will be along to tell you how to do it.

By the way I would not go the Remus route, it is reported that the bike actually has less power with them fitted.

Correct grind of spot weld with dremell and then pull ot baffle/db killer.

To refit use small nut & bolt/pk screw

Thanks for the tip guys. I'll check it out possibly tomorrow.
As for the Remus, I've read that too (that they can sap power). Pity they
were ordered before I read that...........
By the way, what does the Laser system sound like with the baffles
removed ?

Cheers again for the help.

If the ones that BMW fitted to the 2004/5 bikes are the same as the ones sold aftermarket, then there are also a couple of small tack welds in each end pipe.

Once you have drilled out the main spot weld, you need to break those tack welds before trying to get the baffle out. I always found that a sharp blow with a 'twatting' hammer inwards was the easiest and quickest way. Then you can pull them out easily.

Is ditching the cat just a case of replacing it with a "y" pipe ?? And if
so what happens to the Lamda sensor ?
Also where can these pipes be bought ?

1) yes
2) no worries, it can be fitted in Y-pipe
3) the man who can sell you a Laser or Remus exhaust, can also sell you a Y-pipe
