little black box?

Postby high_tower » Sat Mar 10, 2007 2:15 pm

I've been having a few problems with the way my bike had been running so after a good phone call to Darren at Motorworks i set about sorting them with the list of jobs to try.

while i had the bike stripped down it gave me a chance to look at something i'd wondered about. the plug that goes onto the right hand injection on the throttle body had tape on it and i'd always wondered why.

turns out there is a little black box with a few cables coming out of it next to the battery. this had the cat plugged into it, then cable running to where the cat plug should have gone, a cable for the socket that sits on the injector to go into and then a plug which sat on top of the injector.

does anyone have a clue what it is? i removed it just to see what happened. i also left the cat plug off as darren suggested. now all hunting and other niggles seem to have gone.

Sounds very much like a powercommander. No other injection mod uses the O2 sensor.

I'd say, put pack whatever you changed and put it on a dyno to have it properly tuned. It will be faster, less vibey and no more surging or other crap.

i've seen power commanders and this isn't one of them. it is probably something similar. i'll try get a picture up soon enough.

ive been out on my bike and it runs like a dream without it. not as vibey, doesn't have the problem with hunting and the flat spot at 4-5000 has completely gone!

its due to go on a dyno next week because of the problems i had but now i think i'd like to see what it runs like without it all.

If it's not a PC, then I'd say it's a Techlusion EFi or 83i. I thought these only had three wires, but I could be wrong (feed, common and trigger). Maybe it's a bit more sophisticated with an O2 input from the sensor?

Techlusion doesn't use the O2. Could be a Rapid Bike module.

it is a techlusion unit.

it wasn't set up verywell now i've been onto the instructions site.

what sort of difference would it make to a bike running vanderline, y piece, chip, k&n filter?

since i've took it off the power is smoother with no hunting and not as jerky at low speed.

With a proper chip, it would be redundant unless the chip doesn't fit the installed modifications.

They rarely function for more than 6 months and when they are working they are very primitive - in the SKIP :blob7:
