Padock Stand

Hi,
New to Boxertrix but not BM.......
First BM was a 90s in 1976. I had a dissagreement with a Renault 20 in 1986 which knocked the RH pot clean off, put the carb thro' the g.box, etc,etc. Kept the wreck but then had a succesion of BM's.....decided ultimately to rebuild the 90s which is nearly finished. Promised myself not to invest in anything new until the 90 was finished......ah well, got my Boxer Cup Rep last week, hence my query......
I'm after a padock stand of some sort...........recommendations please! What is the 'S Lifter' from Wunderlich like; I know it's a centre stand but removable?

Hi Richard. welcome to the madhouse!

I am sure there will be far more learned responses to your query but heres my 10p worth.

The problem with the BCR is that the bellypan utilises the centre stand fixing position so even when you have taken the belly off to use the BMW paddock stand, you can't!

I believe there is an Abus stand variant that allows the swing arm pivot points to used, provided you have the appropriate add-on.

Alternatively, NWS make (or used too! not sure they are still in business) a paddock stand which locates in the rear pillion foot rest subframe and lifts the rear wheel clear and allows easy removal of the wheel etc. Just be careful as two person operation is highly recommended

Try Abbastand if you want to do the lifting yourself, very easy to use just be careful with the bellypan.

I have the NWS type stand for which I was royally fleeced by Sandbar

It slots into the pillion footrest hangers and is actually reasonably good to use. Not to be tried alone though..

If you've the super-tall '04 onwards BCR the Abba stand doesn't lift the bike up high enough to get the rear wheel off the ground. Before lowering my rear end I just used a couple of Haynes manuals (one of which was a VFR manual - finally found something that bike's useful for ho hum) under each side of the stand to give enough height.

Other than that, no special fittings needed at all. I'll nip down my garage and take a couple of pics for you.

Cheers Gromit. I thought you needed a special adaptor for the swing ram pivot point/s. Looking at the offside of mine (BCR02) I would'nt want to risk picking the bike up on what is there at the mo! I look forward to seeing the piccys.

Just one thought though. How easy is it to remove the bellypan with the Abba stand in place?
Fiddly enough job to do with an NWS stand (lots of cussing at and fiddling with side stand to thread it through the hole).

All Abbastands need a specific fitting kit according to the model of bike.

It would be a pain to remove the belly pan on the stand as you will need to fiddle with the sidestand to remove the bellypan and it you cant really move it on the stand as it hits the left leg when pulling it out.

It is best to remove the bellypan with a sheet under it and with the help of a friend to hold the bike up striaght.

And a very clean bike it is too. How do you keep those exhaust headers so flippin shiney?????

I must say that the stand does not appear to get in the way of the bellypan that much and it does look a lot more stable than the NWS stand.

Hmmmmmmm.......anybody want to buy an NWS stand ??
