Back together again
Sunday's activities consisted primarily of driving to Jasons and then:
dead clutch
dead clutch dust!
new clutch bits go in
gearbox back on (some hammering involved!)
frame back on (more hammering, some swearing)
tank back on (no hammering, petrol everywhere, swearing)
parawotsit
starting to look like an S
da dah!
Took from about 2ish till about 9pm. Despite the swearing Jason didn't kill me and some of the paintwork remained undamaged
Rode round London in the rain today - 1st gear makes much more noise than before on the overrun, gearbox feels a lot tighter (need to adjust selector a bit as it sometimes won't click from 3rd to 4th) and all in all I am well chuffed and a little amazed that it all went back together
In fact there were only 3 bolts and 2 washers left in the tub!
I know where the bolts are from but the washers are a mystery...

got mine finished today.... all back together on thursday... except the swingarm and paralever tightening (and the back wheel)
Mate was back today after his week off... so he set these up for me... nothing to it though... i was just a wooz!!
put the back wheel in... greased the nuts and tightened to 6nm (or not!!!)
and away we went!
got to say... a lot easier than yours Ade... the only problem I had was the splines on the gearbox end of the shaft are different, mine is a 98-99 bike. New shaft was stamped 02, and finer splines on the 02 shaft so we had to rebuild the shaft with my end....
something to watch if you do a box swap maybe!!
all good though and rode it home....
now to learn some mechanical sympathy...
a couple of rideouts.... and hopefully meet up with some trixsters before the autumn snow...

Alright Ade - glad it's still hanging together.
I didn't think there was excessive swearing (probably due to the kids riding round on their bikes within earshot ) and we didn't really have any issues on the reassembly either - all went nearly to plan except for the petrol shower . It's always nice to fire up and ride something that has been in so many pieces a few hours before eh. You forgot to mention BMW Tool No. AD23243 (The bent handle of my engine hoist) used to thread through the exhaust and frame to hammer on the gear lever selector too! I'm happy to have introduced you to the wonders of the rubber mallet if nothing else
Anyway, always glad to help anyway mate - enjoy.
As for the business - this was a loss leader I reckon - from now on it's minimum wage at least

You did your fair share Ade - remember all that flippin palava getting those 'kin cat bolt heads off and even got to use the fabled hammer I think as well as lots of assembly work.
Did you take it to Norwich, or aren't you that confident that it's not going to all fall apart yet

Am tempted to take it to Norwich - am there tonight for grand opening (finally) however Cara is taking the car across from Nottingham (she has a meeting there this arvo) so I'll probably go on the train and come back with her which will allow one of us to partake in a celebratory tipple
S performed flawlessly this morning, gave it some stick round the elephant & castle and I swear the rear end weave has gone - although it could just be the joy of being back on 2 wheels proper.

I reckon that is down to the fact that the two parts of the shaft now actually move longitudinally independent of each other - ie it's been un-wankered by the gearbox man and now the paralever has been set free to work properly.
