Agreed - the VFR Club lot are exactly the same, many of whom have migrated to GS's in the last couple of years.

6400 miles on it in just over 10 weeks and it's left me a broken man. :(

Enjoy the bike Bob - who knows, I may even be 'back' myself sometime in the near future. And that F800S looks more appealing every day.


Oh Come on Richard, you're being overly generous, the VFR club are like friggin Religous Fundamentalists ! ! ! When I had my last one I dared to criticise something about it ( can't even remember what now ) and my god, talk about flamed ( more like moaned to death right enough ! :wink: ) Blinkered does not even begin to describe the viffers. I really like the GS and my mates 1150 Adventure ( he had it before long way ! ) is just a fantastic bike to ride, but there's just too many w@nkers with them just now, present company excepted of course Bob ! :wink:

Got to agree with you though Richard that 800S is looking really tasty, I'm tempted to get a test ride to be honest. Mabey it's just me, but ignoring the fact it's not a boxer I think it looks more like the 11S evolution than the 12S does ! It really is the long days and weeks at a time that reveal how bloody good the S really is isn't it. Still you've enjoyed the Rod up until now haven't you ?

:lol: Ok Paul - I was maybe trying to be tactful :D . But yes, you're absolutely right, say anything negative (or perhaps mention that another bike does something better) about the VFR and you're pretty much ex-communicated. I dared to mention that, from experience and doing a fair few miles, the 1100S was a better all-round package than the VFR.

I have enjoyed the Streetrod - it has a glorious motor and it's a lot of fun in the right conditions. This last weekend has seen it being ridden somewhat beyond its design remit though, where it really began to piss me off (ie lots of bumpy, fairly tight & twisty roads) and it's just been too much like bloody hard work. However, on the flipside it's re-awakened my interest in riding a bike again having got really rusty and perhaps a little disillusioned over the last couple of years. Trouble with that is the 'Rod's not really a suitable motorcycle for the kind of riding I intend doing, plus with my intended mileage it'll cost a fortune to run (it drinks fuel like it's going out of fashion). That brings me down to a shortlist of bikes, one new one and a couple of nearly-news which have caught my eye...

'04 R1150RT
'03 R1150GS
'04 BCR (rwb one)
New F800S

Out & out poke isn't top of my list (my license winces too often as it is) but all the same I want something which is fairly sprightly. Handling, and something which is easy to ride swiftly, are of more importance. It also has to be luggage-capable and something which will take a passenger, at least in reasonable comfort. Apart from the above, there's the Guzzi Breva 1100 but not an awful lot else which really pulls at the heart strings at the moment.

I think secondhand R1200st are good value at the moment. They are that ugly,they make the rider look handsome!

Richard you buy a GS,after all the s**t i took in the yahoo days when someone dared to ask GS or S and i said GS and got jumped on from above!!!!

Blimey sounds like something of the other thread!!!

Nothing like a trip over the channel for changing ones perameters!!

Hence why i've still got the same two bikes!!

Well seeing as I need all the help I can get in that dept... ;)

Steve - looks very interesting. If it's half as much fun as the Breva it should be a good bike - only thing with Guzzi is that I'd be inclined to wait a year or so to let their production really settle down. The new bikes do seem to have a very solid rep already though - only a recall to retro-fit a driveshaft bearing to a number of bikes has blotted the book so far. Apart from that it appears Mandello is now buiding them properly at last.

Plus of course they're still air/oil cooled twins with shaft drive ;)

Congratulations Bob, I feel more comfortable that you are back on a BMW again. Any ptroblems with garage roof clearance using your bike lift?

Have not tried the bike lift yet.

I could get the Tiger to about 3/4 lift so I guess the GS will be the same.

If I need to go higher I guess that I could just remove the screen, probably a bit easier than raising the roof by a few inches. :D
