MOT TIME

Postby BOWLER » Sat May 27, 2006 10:54 am

Showing my ignorance again, will a cracked mirror glass cause an MOT failure I know it does on a car as I found out a few years ago.The crack does not cause any problems visionwise while riding which is why I have not got round to fixing it.
Cheers

you could try and remove it for the mot if its a problem  ... my vespa has only one (RH) mirror for proper 'italian cool' 8) (they only had one of the correct period types in the shop on the day). and it seems to get through every time...

:? Depends on how severe the crack is, which mirror and the MOT tester. If left hand mirror, you could remove it and plug the holes.

It is possibly a fail item if they think it is likely to fall off and break.

A car requires two 'normal' rear viewing devices. As there are usually three on modern cars, one damaged mirror should not affect the pass. I only had one (good) mirror on my Suzuki GS1000, and it passed regularly.

I 'think' that the good mirror has to be on the offside of the bike.

Well the bike passed complete with cracked mirror, before booking the bike in I rang 4 testing stations and got 4 different answers ranging from mirrors are not part of the test through to it would be a definite failure.
What chance have you got if they are not all singing from the same hymnsheet. Anyway must go for a lie down now as I have just been told the official BMW price for a new mirror, £76.
