Breakdown / Recovery Providers

Postby Gordo' » Wed Dec 28, 2005 11:36 am

Haven't had to use my current breakdown provider (Carole Nash) but looking
for any other / recommended service. The insurance cover which CN
provide include the cover automatically but I've now found a cheaper
insurance provider (ebikeinsurance) and although their quote covers UK breakdown it doesn't cover you for European assistance, unlike CN. Does anyone know if there's a company offering Euro breakdown for bikes at a realistic price, then I could buy that and buy the cheaper insurance at the same time.

Gordo

Scroll down a bit and you'll see this post.

EUROPEAN BREAKDOWN COVER
Europ Assist (as used by Carole Nash I believe) £59.00 for an annual policy.

The cover is vehicle specific but can be transferred at any time free of charge (probably because you amend online and print off your own certificate).

Breakdown....

Postby Gordo' » Thu Dec 29, 2005 9:35 am

Just the ticket, adamski.......
Based on Europ Assist costs I should be able to buy
ebikeinsurance and the breakdown cover for less than
C/Nash.....although I'll call them nearer the time to
see if they want to compete.

As a matter of interest, the quote from 'ebike' is very
competitive:
£140 (fully comp), r11s, age 42 (me that is), garaged
n.yorks postcode, bike value around 5k, with data tag only
(ie. no immob etc)

cheers for the reply.

The downside to eBike is that any misdemeanours that occur and are reported to eBike will cost you instantly, not at the end of the year as with other policies.

For instance, I somehow managed to run a red light on the North Circular back in July  £60, 3 points + £78 premium increase  Having said that it still worked out cheaper than Carole Nash to take eBike and Europ Assist and get stung the £78.

I imagine if you have a run of bad luck (crashes and convictions) it could really cost you, otherwise eBike are extremely cheap.

I renewed with Carole Nash back in November. Having rung around a number of Brokers I challenged them with the best quote I'd got (including breakdown cover etc.) and immdeiately saved myself over £50.

The guy from Carole Nash put me on hold whilst he checked with his supervisor and suprise, suprise came back saying "we've just had a new allocation of discount policies in today"

Worth a try if you've been happy with them to date. Regards Bob.

Nice one, guys. Cheers for the replies. The next thing I'd like to see
is bike policies being suspended (except for the theft / fire element)
during those time of the year when many bikes are off the road.
Don't know quite how it would work but if it's something the biking
community want then they should be able to provide it.....market
forces an' all that.
