Or dash or lights or starting.
Just before Xmas I went to start the bike and the starter motor stayed on. I have recently changed the starter cluster as the old one failed and would stick on. Used replacement has been fine until then. I left it to deal with this year and am now having a different problem. No power. No lcd display. Battery reads 12.6v at rest and is always left on a battery conditioner. Funny thing is when turning the ignition key from ‘on’ to ‘off’ the lcd display comes on momentarily. At the risk of putting the answer up myself; I understand that there is a micro switch in the black box of gubbins underneath the ignition switch. It might be possible that this is the item that has failed and a new black box of gubbins is required. Anyone had a similar problem and can offer an answer.
Cheers all

Re: R12S no ignition
Had a similar problem on my R12s about a year ago. Good battery but no display or starting.
Turns out is was a broken wire at the head stock area - a common fault i was told. The cable ties do not allow enough movement so the wire eventually breaks.
Hope that helps

Re: R12S no ignition
Thanks TC. I’ve checked all the cables and connections and they seem ok. I’ll order a new micro switch unit and see what happens. I think this is a fairly common occurrence with ignition switches in general.

Re: R12S no ignition
must admit i think topcats on the right theme here, sounds like a broken wire with that sort of voltage showing. Have you tried turning bars from lock to lock with the ignition on to see if there is any difference with the movement?

Shouldn’t be any cables although I know that it does happen. The bike hasn’t moved in a year and as a coincidence I did actually move the steering from lock to lock. If there was a broken cable I wouldn’t get the lcd flash up for a full second when returning the key to the off position. The micro switch In the unit Below the ignition barrel is a known ‘wear’ issue.

I hooked up the battery from my Guzzi and it’s the same deal. I’ve already checked the side stand switch. No fault found. Nice idea though, lots of people forget about the side stand.
