Running in complete
Managed to finish running the 12S in today, my thanks to Cadwell park, Donnington Park, France and Spain for their assistance in providing miles.

Great to see that the 1200s is capable of keeping with the tradition of BMW's and their high mileage. Mines just getting to 20000 so still away to go! Do you have a list of work that you have done over the period and the mileages that things went wrong - i assume its needed some work?

Aside from the usual service items pads, oil, filters and alternator belts there have been a few bits done
Replacement oil cooler £99 eBay
Final drive rebuild £400 Mile Overy
Front calliper rebuild £390 Balderstons
Replacement rear calliper £60 eBay
Replaced snapped shaft (UJ failed) £545 Balderstons
Couple of sets of fork seals £30 eBay
Replacement front shock absorber £200 Hagon
2 Rear shock services £180 each !00% Suspension
Four sets of front wheel bearings £20 per set eBay
2 sets of front discs £90 a disc
2 rear discs £80 each
Got to say that things haven't happened before about 60,000 miles with all of the items above except the oil cooler spread from there up to the present. Oil cooler broke a weld at 35,000. The engine has been great all the way through, adjust the valves and change the oil and filters regularly, that's it.
Ive got to say that the bike has had a hard life and hasn't been wrapped in cotton wool, its ridden through the winter, been on trackdays, toured Europe and generally done what it was built for. Paint to engine and wheels has suffered although got a nice front wheel from a forum member to replace a buckled one. Keep looking at replacements but after a great track day at Cadwell a week after returning from a 2500 mile tour of the Pyrenees couldn't think of an all round replacement.

Re: Running in complete
That is pretty impressive! I respect the loyalty and divinity you share to your "auld lassie" I would hate to part with it... but their are modern bikes to be viewed when you take off your rose tinted goggles that may be loads better all rounders!!

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Re: Running in complete
Did you have the bike from new? Well done on that milestone.
I’ve seen some pics on car sites where the trip meter is 100.00 and the time is 10.00.
Looks good but ffs I could never be so organised.

Got it with 23,000 on the clock. Problem with replacing it is i have always liked a bit of a quirky bike, something a bit out of the ordinary. Too many new bikes don't seem to have any soul.

Superb Humbug, and I agree with your sentiments I’ve not covered anywhere near that mileage but there’s just nothing out there that floats my boat, and I must say since the Ohlins service new steering damper and full bike service it’s never felt better, and I’ve had mine 11 years and 36K miles

Re: Running in complete
So the next milestone is 123,000 miles?
I couldn’t do long miles on mine without backside pain so I had to sell it. I have another bike for Sunday blasts and my trusty 1100S for touring on.
I know what you mean about it being quirky. Would a KTM or Ducati be left field enough?
