Bonding with the K1
Been using the K1 quite a bit recently …. and I love it. Despite its 30 years of age I find it surprisingly modern riding, comfy, good brakes, good handling with a surprising turn of speed.
I find the 16 v engine needs more revs than the old 8 valve motor to get it in the flow but once she does it's easy to find it flowing to silly speeds
Went up the Horseshoe Pass the other day and there was a guy taking pics of the bikes. Found him on Facebook and he very generously gifted me the pics he'd taken

Cracking pics Steve, that colour scheme really suits the K1. Is the paint original?

Re: Bonding with the K1
That is really yummy.
What a planted and under estimated ride.Different torque curve to the boxer cup but every bit as good in a straight line and will keep pulling.
Over 5500 rpm they kick in again. The k100rs 8v in the good spec does all this and a bit more as it is configured with 2 seats and that is where this ride seperates its self from the rest of the pack.

Steve , you need a period System 2 helmet for extra authenticity and an Atlantis waterproof leather suit

Another qwerky bmw collectable. For authenticity, the qwerkiest of all bmw`s arguably is THE "Bond" one with the Boxer engine. Both bikes a sound investment. Well done you. It looks in very good fettle too.
Hardly a sports tourer though, Those panniers. WTF?
Enjoy.

Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)
started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

I'm loving it Chris, it's got a surprising turn of speed and good brakes, especially given it's 30 years old. Just managed to source the rarer than unicorn horns K1 luggage kit, got given a BMW tank bag with it too so am "luggaged up" now

Oooh.
That bike it Luvverley. Nice purchase.
As for K1 attire, I reckon it has to be aerostitch. Full on, Garishly coloured.

Hi Steve,
It’s really good to hear that you are enjoying your K1.
They really are amazing bikes aren’t they? I was fortunate to find one that had been off the road for many years but having got it running again I am really enjoying riding it. They really are surprisingly modern.
Can I ask, does the cooling fan on your run a lot when the engine is up to normal running temperature?
Best regards
Mike

On hot days yes, they're known to run hot.
I ride new bikes daily and the K surprised me how modern it still felt. I suspect the ohlins rear shock on mine helps but even the brakes feel good by modern standard
