Ballater

Postby big rob » Wed May 08, 2019 3:21 pm

Aye, thought it would be a good idea to ride me GS up to Ballater for the bank holiday weekend camping in the van with Mrs Big Rob & our dog Ed.
Ballater is a lovely wee town, it's surrounded by cracking roads and stunning scenery, well worth a visit.
Rob :)

Rob,
will be heading up to Ballater with some pals in a couple of weeks.
Can you recommend a couple of day loops to ride?

Any input gratefully received

Hi Phil, if the weather is kind you & your pals should be in for a treat.
You're probably already planning to take A93 from Perth (through Glenshee) to get to Ballater :D

1. A939 (over the Lecht) towards A940/ A941 is Whisky trail country (Tomintoul/Grantown on spey/ Aberlour/Dufftown etc)
2. Ballater A93 south & take B950 to Kirkmichael, turn right onto A924 & head over Moulin moor & down into Pitlochry. Again, from there you have numerous options; Kinnloch Rannoch/ Aberfeldy/Kenmore/ Killin etc.
3. From Ballater head over the River Dee onto the South Deeside road B976 and join B974 (Cairn o'mount) to Fettercairn, onto Edzell/ Menmuir/ Memus join B951 which will take you through Glen Isla and back onto A93 then back to Ballater (approx 125 miles, a regular weekend blast for Mrs Big Rob & I).

I'm sure you guys will have a hoot :D

All the best,
Rob :)
