Hi

Post by Busasean »

Hi, just bought my 1st BMW - a1999 R1100S with 34k. Always liked Boxers after watching them at Le Mans 24 hrs a few years back. Decided on a bit of a whim to buy one as a runaround, however the paintwork on the engine and frame is really quite rough so that will be one of my first jobs! Already ordered a service kit, braided hoses and a few other bits to start with. I really hope this bike is good fun to ride!

I have a few other bikes and have been riding for about 28 years, based in East Sussex!

Hi!

Yes, that engine paint pealing is a right pain. Mine's only got 15000 well cared for miles on the clock and it's looking a little rough round the fins now.

They are certainly erm... different! Mine is my first beemer as to be honest, never been a fan. But it's a beemer with a bit of character and can certainly feel fun.

Took it for a short bumble today - only about 25 miles, it’s certainly different but in a nice way, handles pretty well and seems comfortable. - I really like it

I’m off to get it booked in to strip it down and to have the engine, frame and rear sub frame repainted (I hate tatty bikes). The rest of the bodywork is in really nice condition

The hand painted Hammerite look just doesn’t do it for me......

So far I’ve ordered a set of tyres, some braided hoses, carbon cylinder head covers , carbon front engine cover, carbon heel plates, stainless steel exhaust studs, stainless bolt kit , aftermarket levers and a full service kit......

Looking at the bike, the next big purchase will be suspension......

Welcome aboard Sean, The 11S is a really nice bike when setup well, but I can't help but feel that your shopping list must have doubled the cost of your purchase? However it will be a really good ride when your'e finished.

be very careful with the exhaust studs!! Search the forum - they can be a bugger to get out (the nuts can also be a pain - if they feel like they might snap put some heat on them)
