Motorworworks slave cylinder

I bought from Moto works a slave cylinder

The problem is that the neck of the new one is thicker than the original and i can't reinstall it into the housing

The bike is on the center stand with the rear wheel off .

They say at their site
"Please note that BMW advise that on the R1100S it may be necessary to unbolt the cross brace on the frame and move it back 5mm in order to replace this item."

Does this mean that I have to split the bike in half to install the slave cylinder?

Has anybody any experience with the motorworworks slave cylinder ?.

''''I did fit one a few years back but I purchased from a main dealer , (Magura is stamped on the back of it). I don't recall any problems fitting it , I may have removed the shock . I did find a comment by me in a thread here about not having to remove the c frame but I think i'd remember if I had any problems... :shock:

The slave cylinder from Motorworks is thicker than the one from Magura which is the original one .

By being thicker makes it impossible to maneuver behind the c frame .

The original one it could easily been maneuvered and pushed in place in an angle
this one has to be absolutely in line with the housing
because it is thicker, but you can't put it in this position because of the horizontal reinforcement piece of the c frame.

If I knew this ,from the start, I wouldn't even think saving that 40 Euro an would buy the original one.

I think I would take an old fashioned approach and get a file out and file off some of the Thickness - just enough to be able to fit it.- but you will have to remember 2nd Year Metal Work classes on how to file a curved surface

Well my English ain't that good.

You mean that I could sand it down .

To many grains situation near the piston and the flange .
But I guess it was too shiny and new to mess with it that way
and also I'm not in to this kind of thing so..

I choose to go by the book .
Finally getting the frame off wasn't that difficult .

The trickiest part was to pay attention
to the gear box / frame connection
and the flange that eliminates the gap between the frame and the gear box.

The strut rods was another issue because you don't want to stress things in any way so patience and lubrication and some wobbling makes the job done.

I had a slave cylinder go on my bike a little while ago, got a replacement from Motorworks. Although it was a tricky job making sure that everything was clean which was the biggest part of the job for me the replacement cylinder slipped straight into the housing without having to move anything I even left the shock in place though removing this would have made things so much easier. I would re-contact Motorworks and explain the problem you may not have the right part as mine looks different to yours Image

As I have posted above the part that I have used is

It clearly says that it is for the R1100 S
Maybe yours was a previous version , when did you buy it?
There is absolutely no way to put this specific part in place without removing the c frame .
As you said you had put yours in place. even without removing the rear shock ... that is something that can be done with the OEM slave cylinder.

It was so very easy to get it out
that I thought that installing the new one
would be as simple as that
but unfortunately I was taken by surprise .

Thought I'd reply to show how mine went. When I looked at your post the one they sent me was a different colour to yours. Maybe it's from a different supply, the packaging had no reference to a manufacturer. Not sure if that info would be available from Motorworks

You know it's much more different to try to speak with someone through the internet
than speaking face to face .

It's just that I'm living in Greece and sending it back is not an option
because of the shipping cost and all that time that is needed.
After all it's on the bike now .

I believe that anyone who may be interested in buying another slave cylinder from Motorworks
could find this post helpful, with your reference also ,so he could clarify if the part that they will send him is"" plug and play" kind off or the" split the bike in half "one .
