No education is 'free' though, is it. And perhaps there's a good case to be made for the people who need this sort of education having to pay for it themselves.

Just because some bloke from an obscure anti-speed camera campaign in Dorset says you're 'obliged to' doesn't make it so. EUI Ltd (Admiral et al) ask the specific question, in which case you're obliged to answer it. There's no database relating to SACs to which insurers have access. I'm not sure how they'd find out if you'd lied tbh.

And just because some random bloke on an internet forum tells you it's not necessary, doesn't make it so,
There is plenty of information on this, and it's advisable to at least look at the fine print on your policy.

If they ask the question, answer it, end of. If they don't ask it, they're not interested.

dave the german wrote:I had a speed awareness course and the guy conducting it said if we are asked by insurer if we have been convicted of an offence say no because we haven't been convicted of an offence. If, on the other hand you are asked if you have attended a speed awareness course then you have to declare it. So, unless the law has changed since 2014 (I think) you are under no obligation to declare your attendance. I'm with you on this one Herb - I'll take the tea and biscuits - it was interesting to see the spectrum of offences from built up areas to motorways - most were for built up areas. Mine was for "safe" speeding on a dual carriageway

Oh, and at the time there was only one insurer that he was aware of was asking whether you had attended a speed awareness course - he did tell us which one but I can't remember

This exactly.
I found mine informative TBH. The insurance company that will generally ask 'and' load you for it is Admiral.

But if the offence and speed awareness course was to take place after you have taken out a policy, and before renewal, it would be worth checking the terms and conditions of your insurance
Wouldn't you agree.

If they don't ask me the very specific question, then I won't be giving them the information....end of. And, as I mentioned earlier, how exactly would they find out if I'd lied anyway??

For someone who's usually quite belligerent fontana, you do seem to be quite prepared to take one from behind on this.

reminds me of

"A male driver is pulled over by a cop and the following conversation takes place:
Man: What's the problem officer?
Cop: You were going at least 75 in a 55 zone.
Man: No sir, I was going 65.
Wife: Oh Harry. You were going 80. (Man gives his wife a dirty look.)
Cop: I'm also going to give you a ticket for your broken tail light.
Man: Broken tail light? I didn't know about a broken tail light!
Wife: Oh Harry, you've known about that tail light for weeks. (Man gives his wife a dirty look.)
Cop: I'm also going to give you a citation for not wearing your seat belt.
Man: Oh, I just took it off when you were walking up to the car.
Wife: Oh Harry, you never wear your seat belt.
Man: Shut your mouth, woman!
Cop: Ma'am, does your husband always talk to you this way?
.
.
Wife: No, only when he's drunk. "

I simply can't equate speed to dangerous driving without other factors being in play. I also don't agree with people being fined more because they earn more.

I was caught in the M1 last month (camera van on bridge), beautiful day, dry, 83 in. 70. Hopefully I will get away with driver awareness as my licence has been clean for 20 odd years but I am still cross about it now. My own fault!
Get Away with what? Drivers awareness? WTF :? WHY? get your lass to take the hit! anyone who considers one of these pointless courses is a bigger pudding than the poor soul who has to conduct them. BULLSHIT!! Take it on the chin and grow a pair. :)

Why is it pointless?
Pointless on two counts, no points added to your license and they do not make you aware, my son in law took one and sat next to a guy who had attended 5 of them. As Fontana says some insurers are asking you if you have attended one and then hiking your premiums in the same way as penalty points do. My comments may seem harsh and personal but my angst is really against these bloody stupid courses that do nothing. I have taken the points and as far as I was concerned they could stick the course where the sun does not shine. Could not really justify a day off work either.
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

But you avoided answering my question so I'll try again
The question will only be asked (if at all), at the point of taking out a policy.
If the offence occurred in between taking out the policy and renewal, then wouldn't it be a good idea to check your policy.
That's a yes or no question, and as for advocating lying to your insurers, I really can't believe that anyone who claims to have had a job upholding the law, would suggest that, but then the beauty of the internet is that anyone can claim to be whatever they want.

I didn't advocate lying fontana...I simply asked how would an insurer find out if I had! The simple answer is...they can't, end of!

And I couldn't give a hoot what you believe, or don't, about what I did...or didn't...do.

On a slightly different subject, I know someone that caught out with this one

https://www.uswitch.com/blog/2015/11/09 ... l-hazards/

I didn't tell my insurer after I got made redundant and was unemployed.
Blissful ignorance
I just didn't know I had too.
If I'd have had a prang, and that had come to light it could have had serious consequences.
Always check your insurers terms and conditions whenever anything happens that you think may have an effect on your insurance.
To suggest it's not worth bothering, is sheer lunacy
