Remember they are one of the UK's largest motorcycle insurers accounting for a significant proportion of the biking population.
I'm in no doubt that if the other big insurers conducted a similar survey the results would be much the same.
I don't fall into the category either.
I'm late middle aged, impoverished, in a low paid job and have been riding constantly for 35 years.
It would be wrong of me to bring into question the results, just because I don't fit the profile.
There is after all a much bigger picture.

There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

I daresay if the survey was confined to BMW owners, you would fit the profile perfectly.
Looking again at the figures, this looks to be a 'modal' average, rather than the 'mean' average that would make more sense to most people.
Hence you end up with a situation where they state average riding experience is 1-3 years (23%) meaning the vast majority fall outside of this band.

I'd agree with you - most of the BMW owners that I know are in their 50's coming up for 60.
