Rev limiter

Postby stevesilver » Fri Jul 22, 2016 6:05 am

As i do more miles on one of the best bikes I've owned, an noticing certain "quirks"with it.

My latest one is my rev limiter seems to cut in @7500, yet red line is @8000.

Is this right? obviously this isn't adjustable......is it?

If I had another 20/30 bhp the R1100S would be the best bike ever....... :D

Rev limit is actually 8200rpm afaik. Not sure why yours is lower. Is the rev limiter adjustable if a power commander is fitted?
What colour CCP is fitted if any? (see this thread for details or search ccp)
If a grey one is fitted , you'll be losing a lot of power.

As said above, it should cut at higher RPMs.

I had quite a few boxers now, I think I've got to the rev limiter maybe 4/5 times in the last 10 years probably. And most times, by error.

OMG, amazing the info held among the people on here, will have to look into this for sure.

mate has suggested to bung it on a dyno, that way will see what horses it has and if the cut out is that low on all gears......

Thanks for the answers so far...

when i chipped mine i had the option to play with the rev limiter ,,, leave well enough alone , i would lower it through choice not raise it , no real gain ,ride the torque not the revs.
its not a boxer , its a 180 degree v-twin

To what gain? Just to lose some money to the dyno guy?

Double checked anyway (I have it on video) as nab said: 8200rpm.

Can confirm the 8200 limit.
Bike won't touch it in top gear by itself due to aero drag, but will touch it (and run about 10 mph faster on the speedo) when slipstreaming an R1 or Gixer off the last corner at the 'ring.

This stuff is so complicated to a pleb like me, especially as I have no idea what has been done in the past by the previous owners. Its been decatted, and I guess the only way is to dismantle the bike and look :?

Thanks for all the tips

usually no cat likes a tad more fuel , infact 11s just like a tad more fuel anyway ,,
so thats a starting point to look at.
as for the limiter , sounds like its been played with ,, have a look about to see if theres fuel mods done , something like the plug in mods , even a chip mod , not always easy to tell as the chip may just have been flashed ,, and of course the color of the fuel module ,,, even if its there ,,
how are the plugs looking on a chop test
hows the tail pipes black , grey etc
air filter , original or free flow
its not a boxer , its a 180 degree v-twin

M initial thought would be that the rev counter isn't accurate. I ride mine hard any never really touch the red line, it's all over by 7K power wise anyway
