Smaller, older cousin

Postby McBoxer » Tue May 31, 2016 12:22 pm

Had an early start on Saturday in order to get through to Derby and pick up this little beauty before buggering off with the family for the remainder of the bank holiday weekend.

R65 LS manufactured in 02/1982 but not registered until 1984. Has amassed a grand total of just under 16000 miles in her 34 years and seems to have been well looked after. Has a couple of minor cosmetic marks on the paintwork and a leak from the left hand Bing (carburettors - remember them?). Ordered a new float gasket from Motoworks for £2.10....

Had a great ride home, really pleased with the purchase:

Sounds great! Do you have any plans for it or will you be keeping it as it is?

Nice bike Al! Looks honest and very clean. Saw one of these the other week at hawes. Had done only 200,000 miles! Still looked great, quality of these will never be matched again.

The title made me think it was a story about the sexual awakening of a teenager in Wales.........

Al :D

Nice bike, but the nose is a bit incongruous?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I don't have a story about the sexual awakening of teenagers or librarians in Wales, so I feel like I've let the class down. Scotland on the other hand.....

Keeping as-is for now, bar fixing a couple of minor issues. There' s a couple of rust blisters coming through on the frame so there's a long term plan to sort that out over winter, but for now I plan to take her out on relaxed sunny days and just enjoy.

Are you going to get a couple of lapel badges and take the pins off to stick on top of the carbs?

Don't change the looks at all. It's a modern classic.

Absolutely no plans to - she's in such good condition it would seem wrong.
Besides, I'm of the opinion that Hans Muth did a pretty good job with the styling on these. Other opinions are available of course!

Thing is with mature unmolested models in original condition, the tendency is to get precious with them. Nice bike to own, no doubt.
