Helmet doesn't smell roses...
Got a Shoei Z-one that i'd like to wash the fabric liner on. I was able to take off the chin pieces, and also the part that sits in front of your mouth. But the big styrofoam thingy? Can you take it out?
I don't want to use too much force in pulling it out. I might break it.
Shoei website says that the interiour is washable, but couldn't find anything on how you take it out.
My washing machine is too small for a helmet! Yes, i tried that too.

I got it out!
I pried the styrofoam carefully with a screwdriver, at the back of the helmet. It popped loose quite easily actually. Then I had to squeeze the helmet hard, to get it to a more round shape while a friend pulled the styrofoam with the lining on out.

Yep. Always done mine in the bathtub with a shower head. Towel on the floor of the shower for a soft surface, soak the helmet innards with warm water, soap it up with your choice of shampoo, rinse a few times and air dry. No problems.er-minio wrote:Congratulations on wasting a perfectly healthy helmet.
Next time, just wash it into a bathtub as suggested above.
What type of glue do you think you shall, use to re-affix the foam liner as well as it was originally fixed?

It was held in place with just a thin piece of bitumen. That's why it popped loose so easily. I'm sure Shoei meant it to be removable, otherwise they would have glued it on with some adhesive.f90x wrote:er-minio wrote: What type of glue do you think you shall, use to re-affix the foam liner as well as it was originally fixed?
I have a roll of bitumen laying around so that's not a problem.
I'm much more worried about how i'm going to be able to put the fabric lining on to the styrofoam.
You probably need to be a hindu god with multiple hands to put it back on neatly.
The fabric is fixed to the styrofoam with tape. Similar to duct tape, only thinner.

last one the styro foam came loose on me, i binned it.
it was old. think the liner was saying help in so many ways.]
couldn't be safe for me. glue it back in, risky!
i got a xspiritII next, and only had it 3-4 months i found genuine liners from a bike shop selling up on ebay, and got the head liner for £6 and and the cheek pads were a size or 2 bigger so i waited to i seen a pair again on ebay to match, and got them for £6.
full interior for £13
ching ching.
it's stored in the box and when it's 3 year old or so, i'll replace them. watching for a cheap brand new visor to complete the rebuild at the minute, i;ll wait to it's the right price.
