R1100S Fork Feet/Bottoms

Hi Freez76,
Your timing is excellent. I have just got back from a holiday with the R1100S on the beautiful roads on the east coast of Tasmania and only this afternoon I have begun disassembling the forks to get ready for the new fork feet. Before removing the fork assembly I tried heating one foot with a heat gun but couldn't get it off. I have since removed each leg of the forks so I can try again. Did you use a gas torch to heat yours?

Hey Freez76 (and some others),
You were right. A bit of MAPP gas for about a minute with the tubes held in the lower clamp in a vice and voila. The fork feet unscrewed . Didn't even burn the paint off.
There was a bit of staining on the anodizing where the tube had been concealed by the non-threaded section of the foot (the part of the casting that extends to support the upper caliper bracket) so I have decided to get them re-anodized since this part will now be exposed by using the new feet. I'll take the opportunity to install new bushings also.
Still waiting for the calipers to arrive but that will also give me a chance to powder coat the new feet. More to follow

Just a couple of update photos. I had the fork tubes re-anodised and I have painted the fork feet and clamp. Also put new bushes inside the forks. The Beringer calipers have arrived and look pretty good (in my opinion). Not much left to do apart from reassembly and some longer brake lines. More to come soon - I hope
