I still think it would be better if it was like Finland and was a % of your salary, let's face it £100 fine to someone on minimum wage has a far greater impact on someone than say a premier footballer

The cynic in me thinks that as there are far fewer traffic officers on the road, and therefore far fewer fines imposed, is this just an attempt to bring the revenue back up?
This is an interesting quote from the bbc website this AM
RAC Foundation director Professor Stephen Glaister questioned the proposals.
He said: "People who break the law should bear the consequences but this seems such a wholesale change to the system so you have to ask what was going so badly wrong before.
"Ironically we know that speeding offences have declined over recent years and just last week the Department for Transport confirmed that, even after taking congestion out of the equation, recorded traffic speeds have been dropping for a decade on all types of roads."
