hpe frontpipe

Post by ted »

i have HPE front pipes on my R1200 s and i'm thinking of maybe swapping the bike. i've never seen any for sale - has anyone a clue of what they might be worth? Might be easier to leave them on if there not that desirable.
Anyone ever seen any sold?

I wouldn't leave them on the bike. It's difficult to get just the headers for the S and it'd cost around £400 if you could find them (new). Admittedly it's a limited market but used ones should be worth a couple of hundred maybe. Just be careful you don't snap the header studs when swapping the headers - they're made of cheese.

HPE pipes are made in Italy. Sandbar sold these until the economy went titsup and the Italian firm went bust. Header pipes for the 1200s are like hens teeth.

thanks chaps, i must admit when i put them on the bike it was a transformation - sounded good and seemed to generally smoother everywhere. Like you say, it might be a waste to let them go with the bike.

Were the HPE pipes any better than any of the other brands?

I wouldn't say they were better, but they were right up there with the Akro's. The styling of them was what I liked.....under the engine as opposed to along side it. Gave the bike a mean appearance to me.
