Or has anyone got a pair just layin', un-used, in the back of a drawer? You know, the ones that had a zip pouch on the back with a HI-VIZ, water-proof over-mit inside that could be rolled out over the fingers of the glove itself. I had a pair years ago and they were brilliant but they were worn out eventually. Was out late last night on the 'blade (not so good wind protection as the 1100s) and after 40 miles or so, even with heated grips turned up 'full' my fingers were getting uncomfortably cold. After a 100 I'd had enough and it was back in the shed for both of us. Handle-bar muffs? 'fraid not. There's just no clearance on full lock to accommodate 'em. Your help gentlemen please.

Personally I'd go with a pair of race type with Goretex extrafit, I've been useing such since Alpinestars released the Road Tech maybe 15 years ago.
Totally waterproof and as Goretex is wind proof it keeps the cold out for longer.
The good thing is there only marginally thicker than a true race glove so you get plenty of "feel"
Probably the best of this type would be AStars 365, I've not tried them personally but I know plenty who swear by them.

They're really really good Nick, the only thing that confuses me is in the description it says

I wonder what a digital goat is then, as opposed to an analogue goat ?

Nope Steve you're wrong. I've just taken them out of the drawer and had a practice and it's still quite feasible to do not only the salute you mention but also the Vulcan and the single digit one as well. But not at the same time!
