I plan to do my own servicing, but I had to have one done just recently to keep it inside the warranty I got.
That was £135 for nothing more than an oil and filter change.
They did it while I waited, and I watched through the glass. They didn't do the valve clearances
So the mind boggles at the thought of the cost of a major service,
Anyone had one done at a BMW dealer recently ?
How much was it ?

I paid £285 for what was supposed to be a major service couple of years ago. Seems a lot as the independent I'm now using quoted £140 ish for a service. I don't think this was actually bad when My Verys 650 cost just over £300 :shock:

That's better than I thought.
I'm popping over to the dealers tomorrow so will ask.
I was expecting about £400-£500.
That's what new Japanese superbike owners are paying these days,

Jeez, talk about money for old rope. There's the catch I suppose if you buy new and have to get main dealer service to maintain the warranty.

£350 + VAT for a 12,000m/annual service on a TwinCam 1200.

That was at a BMW dealer.

Hi,

I just got my 2006 R12S done at Douglas Park Motorrad in East Kilbride.

It was a 66K service but I asked them to:

Change oil
Change oil filter
Do the Valve clearances (they were out)
Balance the throttle bodies (they were out)
Change the rear diff oil

I've got a check list of all the things they inspected and some adviseries for me to do myself (pads).

I've got a K&N air filter in there so didn't need that bit.

£174 all in.

With a free service bike (Water cooled GS thingy - passed on the 190hp cadaver doner)

Did 430 miles after the service coming back from Glasgow and bike seems to be great.

They couldn't tell me if the diagnostic computer had upgraded my firmware as they weren't looking.

So I don't know how much is all valves/throttle bodies or if I got new firm ware.

That to me is really good value.

PS Bikes over six years old get 30% off labour and 10% off parts - not sure if that is for all of the UK - please ask your local dealer - I will, my local omni-garage charges £55 a hour, so if BMW are the same or even within a pound or two I pay that for the workshop warranty.

£70.50 for parts
£74.38 for labour

20% for HMRC

There seems to be a number of items which are every two years or 40K KM - so that might suggest a 24K mile service would be more expensive e.g. Brake fluid, gearbox oil, bevel box oil

Oh I also got all my bits greased too - side stand & foot pegs and the lights checked where they noticved my home made repair to the headlight that was melting everything.

Might have to have that headlight unit out soon.

Looks like good service. The setting of valve clearances and throttle bodies can make a huge difference...as you have found.

A wallet busting £680 plus vat! I kid you not :shock:

A year or so ago, I was in my local dealership who have Ducati, and overheard a guy being quoted for a full service on his 1098.
It was over a grand, so yeah, I know you kid us not

Not sure where I'd take my 1100 now, as our local BMW man has been arrested for murder :shock:

Mind you, I never trusted him, after he fitted a tyre the wrong way around on my R100RT.
