used to pick up superdream ones for next to nothing [rare now i suppose] wonder how long ago it was they last made them?

Wonder if it's like the Hall sensors on the boxers the unit is fine but the wireing is goosed

They're Nippon Denso so I'm a bit surprised at the poor quality of them for Jap electrics to be honest

That doesn't suprise me, they're probably the same part, Dave need a new mirror for his Falco, the part listed for the Falco was priced £70+, but the identical mirror listed for the RS125 was £24 IIRC

Can you hit the boy who knocked your bike over for the cost?? I don't believe in coincidences!!

I'd say the impact damaged it or the shock of it falling over broke somthing internally??

It was our FD who knocked the bike over, I don't in all fairness think it was caused by the fall.

It still runs ok so long as the lights are on, and as I keep my lights all the time it may have been like this for a while.

It's possible I could get him to pay for it but I really don't like to stitch someone, I guess I must be too honest

It's certainly producing more than 15v... I've ordered another one, they are a known weak point on the Funduros so it's prudent

Well it's cured

It was the voltage regulator.

Motorworks were doing them for £87 plus P&P ... as I do a fair bit with Williams BMW I asked them if they could match the price.

To my pleasure they beat the price quoting £81 inc P&P ... oh and of course with being a genuine BMW supplied part it has 2 years warranty !!!

I reckon all told it's about £12 cheaper delivered.

Fitted it tonight, and the previous symptom of spitting and farting when on sidelights has now gone and it's all back to normal

Did you refit the old one just to be sure ..

Was it really over voltage causing the problem , I assumed it would be undervoltage where the lack of load without the headlight was somehow causing the regulator to shut down the output ?

apparently it puts out too much voltage which upsets the cdi, having main lights on soaks some of the excess current. The next step in the failure is boiling the battery

A friend of mine was offered an F650 recently for next to nothing , only problem , it was sat outside uncovered for 2years. Somehow it ended up in my shed (it's not mine though) and I set about getting it running. Previous owner said it had carb problems . These were cleaned (yuck) and rebuilt with new o 'rings . Bike fired up but had weird symptoms , would idle all day but wouldn't take throttle , luckily I had faith in my carb rebuilding skills and turned to the internet for help , yes , I had a 17 volt bike !
Has anyone any idea if a Chinese regulator for under 20 euro delivered would actually regulate/rectify voltage and not spontaneously ignite?
I ask because when looking at European suppliers , the items seem to originate in Taiwan.

Can't see why it wouldn't work, it's probably the same as the OEM one anyway

... certainly worth a punt at that price.

Does yours run better if you turn on the headlight dip / heated grips / headlight flasher etc? Mine did as it takes some of the heavy voltage out and gives the CDI a chance (which is why it runs funny, the extra voltage gives the CDI a hard time)
