Won't that make it run backwards?

Only if it's left hand drive.
Is that why the LH cylinder is further forward then the RH one?

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........
See if that works .....

In the Northern Hemisphere, yes.

Well I've just replaced my tank with modified (more fuel) one and had to replace the standard battery with a PC545 because it's not as 'tall' as the OE. It's also slightly fatter so you need to file the 'ribs' off the battery or modify the carrier. I don't know anything about reverse polarity, I just connected it as normal .
.
Mr. Spock is my role model so be advised; I possess no (discernible) sense of humour.
It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.

IIRC I don't think that that is correct! The HP2 Sport has a smaller battery than previous R bikes. I think that the battery is the same as on the S1000RR.
IMHO the OE battery is too small! Occasionally it would not restart (30 secs or so) after a short break when hot. 5 or 10 minutes wait was normally sufficient to solve the problem.
The Odyssey 545 is much larger ( an inch or so taller ) and I went for the smaller one that is (I think) recommended for the F800. It is the PC310!
At first glance it should not be man enough, but so far I have not had a problem. However, it is not plug and play. The terminals are the wrong way round and are the small screw type
Mind you - once they solve the problems with the Lithium ones (both technical and cost) that will be the way to go. Yes - there are a number of downsides as detailed on here recently, but there are now a lot of them out there and so far I have not heard much in the way of problems.

So, not an easy blinking job then
Nige is, of course, correct. The cranking ability of the standard battery with a hot engine is not great. In the early days of ownership, i had a problem with the bike cutting out regularly - when hot - and then of course, was a bugger to re-start. Thumbing the starter would only return the sound of a clicking solenoid. Had the bike from new and used 3 OEM batteries in that time, hence the reason for looking for an alternative solution.
Thanks for all the useful comments thus far and the not so useful, but amusing contributions
