OK I know I'm old - but will someone explain please?

Well, there is a popular beat combo, called the "Kaiser Chiefs", who stormed the popular music charts with a song called "I Predict a Riot". The Kaiser Chiefs, who hail from Leeds, were so named, in homage to a South African footballer who played for Leeds United, called Lucas Radebe. Mr. Radebe formerly played football in the South African league for a team called The Kaiser Chiefs. Their first and arguably most memorable hit single (the band, not the football team) was "I predict a riot", and as Susie Dent (Countdown's own lexicographer) would no doubt spot in an instant, the words "Kaiser" and "Pfizer" sound very similar, so much humour ensues.
Cheers,
Paul

Thank you Paul for the encyclopedic explanation.
Still don't find it funny, but at least have and understanding of why now.
Kaiser Chiefs - never heard of them, my ear being tuned to Stones, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Colliseum, Black Sabbath etc..
I don't follow soccer, so sorry for not being a hipster and tuned to the latest popular music and in with the in-crowd.
Oops I just proved I really am old!

Phil - I fear you may be right.
And the beauty of growing old disgracefully is - I don't give a rats ass either.
I will continue to listen to my Blues, Jazz and Prog Rock and not worry about being an outsider to the hipster beat combo loving in-crowd
Just got to wait for this bloody flood to go down so I can move house now.

John, just bought a new stereo amp and enjoying listening to Rossington-Collins on vinyl (remnants of Lynyrd Skynyrd for the un-initiated) and other such "old stuff" - I'm wearing the strings out on my air guitar like no bodies business!!!!

Yep Dave still got all my old vinyl from when I started collecting as a teenager (remember those?)
Dale Krantz has certainly got a rock queen's voice - sadly underrated.

Has she not!!!
She was with Skynyrd when I saw then in Manchester in 2019 - and married to Rossington - mmm teenage years - no worries apart from having enough money to put petrol in the bike oh and a few pints on a weekend....happy days
