Hi all,
Hopefully just about to become a proud owner of standard model with ABS in Silver but I have never been colour prejudiced.
Need to get a hugger and that German one looks very tasty.
Whats the best fender extender and where from (dont want all the paint chipping off the front)
Read about drilling the filler neck to allow a full tank - better take it off the bike to do it.
Anything else that really should be done to improve the longevity of the bike.
Tried searching to old site and gave up. This new one seems to be the dogs b.......
If I can make a suggestion - can someone create a FAQ section because on most bike sites the same questions keep being repeated and it would have saved me asking this and then having to ask about tyres when I have worn the first set out.
Any help you can give much appreciated

I believe it has been mentioned in the past that the top portion of the filler neck can be removed so you can drill it away from the tank.... best someone else confirms!

Would that apply to a Rockster (R1150R) as well??

interesting mod.

An FAQ is a good idea - an easy way to do it is to have 1 "sticky" thread in the relevant forum with links to useful threads. I run one on www.visordown.com in the workshop section.

Works a treat. Since I did it I have been able to fill the tank all the way to the top of the neck without having to wait for the fuel to settle. Either one largish hole or a few small ones around the circumference should do the trick…

Hate to admit it, but I did the same to my 1100R (it shares an identical filler thingy). Same problem.

Did you both adjust the overflow pipe?

If not you may want to read this. First section details how you should also adjust the overflow pipe. Once the holes are drilled then leaving the overflow pipe stock will make it too low....

I did the drill mod nearly two years ago now and haven't had any fuel leaks. I fill up 3 times a week, and get 230+ miles from each tank.

How much extra fuel you cramming in there?
Or are very frugal when it comes to right hand action?
I mean with the throttle.

Er, yes. But don’t forget I’m talking about a RS not an S. So the tank is bigger as standard, 23L compared to 18L on the S.

Dunno, as I try not to let it get completely empty. I think the most I have been able to fill it up with is 25L.

I don’t think so. Most of my commute involves A1 / A10 riding at about 85-90, (sorry I meant 70 officer) The rest is about 5 miles of twisty B roads.. I’m no Rossi, but I don’t dawdle along, (unless I’m in the mood)

The most I’ve gone with the reserve light on is 40 miles (but that is dependant on how the fuel gauge is set up)

Did you take a look at the page I linked to in my previous post? If you remove the filler to do the job (recommended) then there is only two rubber pipes to remove and the filler neck comes out. Once it is out, you can drill the holes and adjust the level of the overflow before putting it back in. The hardest part for me was making sure the rubber o ring re-seated itself properly, as I didn’t have a new one to hand.

yeah - I did read that and it makes sense - but I've seen photo's of the internals on the Roadster/Rockster and it does seem that there's a lot of hose-work and gubbins to get wrong.

Maybe I'll have a play in the near future.
