"Matt Finish" Helmets

Oh er missus........

With the purchase of my GS I currently fancy one of the new Shoei Hornet helmets. Unfortunately the colour I like the most only comes in a matt finish.

Any one got any experience of these matt finishes? Do they clean-up okay and the fly splatts come off.

I normally use Arai helmet polish on my gloss one but not sure how durable these matt finishes are.

Any comments welcomed

my 'Matt' Caberg scuffed a lot when compared to 'Gloss' finishes. It sort of ended up with 'Marks' that looked polished. But hey,... mine gets some proper abuse and it is only a £99 lid.

Was it Yamaha who had a matt black bike? People loved the idea of the colour but hated the finger marks that you coukd not really get rid off. Guessing the same for your helmet

Matt is noisy ...

Matt grips the road more in a crash giving worse neck injuries ...

Shiny is good :D

Bob,

I've got a matt silver finish Shoei lid.

Plus point :) is that scuff marks & scratches don't show nearly as much as they do on your normal shiney finish lid.

Minus point :( is the road grime, general dirt and splatted flies seem particularly attracted to it (but I'm an all weather rider). All this is easily removed, but the matt finish shows the dirt really quickly in comparison to a shiney finish. Also you don't have the same satisfaction from the matt finish that you get when you've cleaned a shiney lid.

To put it bluntly, I wouldn't buy the same again. The only reason I bought the one I wear now is down to the fit, it was way above the comfort level of the others in their range. And for some reason I can't now find an Arai that is comfy - although I always used to!
