Hi all,
I have a boxercup 04, and the choke lever has 2 positions, pull it to the first stop and nothing happens, pull it to the next position and it revs but it don’t stay there, its spring loaded and when u take ur finger off it goes back to the first position that don’t do anything, my bros R1150 the lever stays in the 2nd position where it revs. So is mine set up different or is it broke? Its been like this since I bought it from bmw. Its not a problem but it dont seem right? :?:
Thanks Aaron

Hello Budman, I've had this problem on two or my S'. There is a spring and ballbearing in the lever mechanism that has siezed up. The ball bearing should locate in a notch to retain the fast idle position.

From memory you need to remove the bar-end, grip and the plastic cover surrounding the idle lever (watch out becaue the screws are fine thread and may be corroded too!). Clean all the parts then reasemble. It is not difficult to work out what needs doing & will probaly take a couple of hours (max) the first time.

Cheers

Hi Budman,

Not so fast on the spanners mate, my 03 11S does exactly the same and according to the hand book page 61, you have to hold the fast idle lever in position when you start the bike. This suggests that the spring loading is intentional.

Cheers, Cobbster

If the fast idle isn't working on the first notch it could just be that there is a little too much free play in the throttle cables and or the fast idle cable which operates them. The only other problem I had was a jammed fast idle lever which was caused by the retaining screw coming loose (small one in the photo).
