Pinion Seal leaking and BMW quality

Took the rear wheel off last night to replace the tyre (small nail small leak Pilot road only 30% worn damm*t) and found the bolts smelling of Hypoid. Further inspection and Leak is from bottom rear of the boot.
Dealer says pinion seal - 2.5 hours labour. Anything else to look at whilst the back stump is pulled? Is this common? Put New rear pads in 1000km ago and everything was dry, so this is failing fast.
Only 28,000km on the '99S which has been regularly dealer serviced and stored in heated garage and so far the failure list is:
Ignition lock siezed - warranty
rear subframe cracked - warranty
Cat baffle loose and rattling - no warranty put on Z-tecknik
Clutch master cylinder 'moist" - $500CDN for parts so left it for now
Pinion seal leaking.
My Yamaha Seca 650 lasted 12 years 50,000 miles with only the mufflers rotting off - twice. What about this BMW quality??
