Garmin Street Pilot

Postby bikemad99 » Sat Feb 21, 2004 5:22 pm

I have aquired a sat nav system through work. I have just been to Pidcocks and they want £65 for a lead to connect to the bike. As anyone done it , preferably a bloody site cheaper. I have the earphones and lead,so just require the power connection. It is a shame to just use it in the car.

Err, lots cheaper - £12.45 suit you?

Look here - http://www.lynks.co.uk./cables.html

Scroll down to the pDpo. I use this on my GPS V but the SPIII is identical in terms of connection for power and data.

I'v added a socket to the dash area on mine and added a BM plug to the power lead above so that when the GPS is off the bike there are no cables left hanging.

Any other GPS questions just ask - I seem to have acquired enough knowledge to reach anorak status.

Adam

[Edit] Thinking about it, you can't just wire this into the battery - you will need an inline fuse of 0.5A (check this rating). I've put mine between the battery and the power socket.

Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.

Adam,

that is my sort of cheap. Thanks a lot for the help. I have been told to use the stick on mount provided with the car kit,do you agree? I have a lockable Touratech mount, but no bracket to fix on the bike.

Personally I wouldn't use the stick on mount and Garmin bracket - I've read of people watching their expensive GPS leave the bike and bounce down the tarmac.

Rob B uses a Touratech mount (and possibly Chris C as well) but there is also the RAM mount and Saeng mount options.

I had access to a relatively cheap Saeng and was going to give that a go but decided to stick with my V and RAM mount in the end.

http://www.gpsw.co.uk/details/prod514.html

With the RAM mount you need a yoke clamp in place of the U bolt mount and this clamps to the ignition barrel.

For the Touratech you need the "Anbauadapter BMW R1100S Sport"

Go to the online shop, BMW, R1100S and then scroll down - 4th item I think.

I can post some pics if you want.

Adam,

checked the touratech site as suggested. What does "high steering wheel only " mean, and will this bracket fit a standard `S`

I have a SP111 on a Touratech mount & have just found my invoice.
The mount (locking) is part No T0650056 & the mounting bar is T040065
Total cost £85.31 inc p&p.

I think that means the high bars option where they're above the yoke but I vaguely recall Mike's (Boxertools) bars being the standard below yoke set up and that looked ok - Mike, can you confirm this is correct?

Mike,

I have the locking mount so only need the mounting bar. Can you confirm it fits the standard bars.

Reg,
The locking mount fits the standard bars on the mounting bars as in my last post.

Mick,

I don`t even know where i`m going. If you are very lucky you will be my age one day.
Correction, I do know where I am going today. Cardiff, 5 star hotel tonight, Carling cup tomorrow with VIP hospitality, then after match party. It is a pity we don`t sponsor bike racing.

Perhaps a polite word in the right ears about the merits of exciting motorcycle racing compared with the tedium of 22 men kicking a bag of wind about ( Im a Leicester fan).
