I thought there were just two normal plugs per head.

The second plug is just sited underneath - it's quite a crude arrangement where they seem to have drilled a hole into the head and tapped it. Apparently the motor runs with the 2nd plug completely disconnected - seems it's just for cleaning up the emissions anyway.

The twin Spark engine is smoother and does not pop and bang on the over run.

Smoother - that sounds good. :) I've only had a very brief ride on a twin-sparker (15 mins on a Rockster demo) so can't really comment. I wonder if I could get a BCR for the weekend.... ;)

I think I've ranted before about this.Instead of completly redesigning the head,BMW have been very lazy.It would have been so much better if the 2nd plug had been on the topside of the cylinder. Then there would have been no probs with water getting into the plug cap etc.
I don't think they've even gas flowed it!
Lets hope the latest boxer engines are a bit more refined.
Bailey.

I have a BCR with the Twin Spark engine and I feel it is better than the single spark engines that I have rode

Is the new 1200 engine twin spark? Or have they designed it properly?
