Belly-pans and central stands???

Thanks for the pointers guys as regards the "Boxerdesign" site. I can see it being an expensive link!
I am still unsure as to which Belly-pan to opt for.The ones which look best cannot be fitted to a bike with a center stand. My question is this;what are the pros and cons of removing the center stand? The only draw-back I can see (bearing in mind I have only had the bike for 5 days) is that the left side cylinder will fill and cause a little bit of smoke for the first few miles. Any and all comments will be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Leasky.

I never had a centre stand and it was never an issue. To avoid / reduce the smokey start up turn the ignition off while the bike is still upright.

We took off the centre stand on the basis that we would hardly use it and it only adds weight!
The truth is that we first took off the centre stand when, like you, we were going for a belly pan. We actualy bought a belly pan designed for a centre stand (schlumberger I think), that Darren supplied us from stock at Motorworks. We started to fit it then found we had to remove the centre stand in order to get it on the bike; having removed the centre stand we decided not to bother putting it back on!
The centre stand was reasonably easy to detach although I think we ended up leaving a bush in on account of being unable to remove it.
Haven't missed the stand at all.

PS Anyone want a very rare and good condition centre stand......minus one bush?!

I have the BMW carbon Belly pan which is designed for use with the centre stand. tbh I think the black bellypans suit black bikes best and look a bit clunky on other colours. The 'S' works best as a less is more bike IMO.
Colour coordinated bellypans complement the Boxercup bikes too.

Any excuse..........
Our pride and joy, plus colour coordinated bellypan (adds 3bhp onto speed)

Only a sidestand fitted to the Boxer Cup and to be honest - I've never noticed any smokyness from running it or starting it on the stand.
Let's face it, the sump must be low enough so that the crankwebs don't hit the surface of the oil, so how does this oil get into the camspace on the LH cylinder
Only benefit that I can see to leaving the centre stand in place is that it allows you to manoeuvre the bike easier into spaces at the end of your garage.

Its pumped up and gravity fed back to the sump. Also the oil is used to cool the engine around the exhaust valve area. Some always gets stuck up there when the bikes leant on the side stand as it cant drain back into the sump. The oil can find its way past the valve guide and burn in the cylinder on start up.

On a cold day my S will stall when I lift it upright off of the side stand.....
Actually its a bit of a pig when cold at the mo. I need to adjust the fast idle lever as it doesn't do enough when fully out anymore.
Am I asking for trouble starting it on the side stand?

I always used to start mine whilst sitting on the bike and ride away as soon as it started.I never used the fast idle, even in winter.I cant see any real problems in you starting it on the stand.Just dont let it sit too long.Best way to warm the engine is by riding gently for 5 -10 minutes.

Gus,
Ahah!
Sounds right
I guess that it hasn't manifested itself because the bike only has 6500 miles on it.
Thanks,

Nice one Ian
I've got to ask: What finish is that you've used on the exhaust headers and the front forks?
