Grab Rail

Postby fraggle » Wed Mar 31, 2004 12:21 pm

Ok.
This is probably an old or stupid question to you happy owners.

Does anybody do a pillion friendly grab rail of any description?

The Venturi system seems popular with several owners. You get a luggage system and grab rail all in one. Don't have one myself, but I've seen the fitting, looks neat and tidy.

Unfortunately I've already got rails on so don't really want to change all that.

I take it you mean you have the BM rails. The Ventura (and Givi) rails are additional and I'm fairly sure they don't interfere with the BM stuff.

Have you asked your pillion to try riding with hands on knees, or round your waist (if you have a belt on your jacket, they can grab that)?
I guess it's down to personnal preference, but most folk i know say this is much better than a grab rail. Grab rails feel secure, but hands on knees gives better weight distribution, better bracing under braking/acceleration and is more comfortable. Having said that, grab rails are good for re-positioning if you slide around on the seat.

I've got some Ventura rails, don't have the top bit though (well actually I do but I don't want to get rid of it).

Thanks for the advice. I will get in touch with Ventura and find out if they will fit around the BM rails.

As Richard said, they do!!!!,you can either buy the side rails like Malc's got and either buy the single grab rail bar or the sport rack that also has the grab bar.

The Ventura arms do fit around the factory pannier rails and you need only get the grab rail as others have stated. The 'sport rack' is handy if you strap a bag on now and then or go the full rack if you wish to use Ventura's luggage system.

There is one S owner in Sydney, Oz, who had a custom aluminium grab rail made to suit. Same reason as yours. Cost a fair bit from memory (for what it was, IMO).
