Strange vibration on my R1100S

My bike , now over 60 thousand miles seems to have developed more than a tingle when riding , mid rev range.

Before I pop the wheels off, new tyres last year, to re-check balance, any other suggestions ?

I think the prop shaft needs synchro, because since the day I bought it, its had a weird feel in the gears up to 6th where its smooth.
Almost like a Vrrr Vrrr , so after seeing a few you choob experts saying BMW often send the bikes out of the factory with the UJs not properly aligned , I'd imagine that's that cause .

However, this vibration I've become aware of over time. Even my GF said she is aware of it now !! :cyclopsani: :cyclopsani:

During the week, I'll get it up on the table, and start looking .

Maybe unbalanced throttle bodies - an easy fix before stripping down other stuff.
Worth a check.

Thanks, I was kind of wondering if that could cause an unknown vibration !!

Didn't know the boxer engine had a carpal tunnel - is that where the cam chains run?

Well, I decided to set the throttles up manually as I can't get to Justin till tuesday

Did all the usual , idle screws , then remove the intake tubes.

Put a thin bicycle spoke under each slide, then slowly opened throttle until one moved.
Adjusted cables until they both moved same time .

Put everything back.

Started , easily ??? Idles smooth, pick up smooth so took it for a ride !!!

What a difference , absolutely great, slight vibration in the bars over 100 mph, otherwise absolutely great to ride again !!

Idle screws, one less the 1& half, one just over 1& half . Now both 1& half out .

One throttle opening about 1.5mm before other one . So, when it goes on the gauges, I'll be interested to see how much adjustment will be needed .

Great work Gerry :D. I did balance the TBs with a carbtune but that was a long time ago!

It was something I never touched , but as I said, slowly over time you become aware of a vibration !

Just goes to show just how resilient these bikes are, so many years , over 60 thousand miles .

Mind you, I've never thrashed it, other than a few brief spells of "the devil made me do it your honour"
its been ridden with care and mechanical sympathy .

Had mine checked at 90,000 miles and the mechanic said that they were bob on. I have never touched them or fiddled before so it seems to have managed all on its own. Its been thrashed within an inch of its life on trackdays, toured the Pyrenees a couple of times and performed in all weathers. Yes I have had a new oil cooler, front wheel, shaft etc but overall considering the life its had I'm not going to complain.
