Another 1100 Gearbox Question

So my R1100R now a blacked out Scrambler, has been fun, though now has the blip in second gear (71,000km) where the gears don't engage properly then skip under load. So I searched for a replacement box, fortunately found a whole bike (S), which happened to have a new clutch, drive shaft etc! (220,000km)

My mech swapped them out and did a great job.

But guess what....

SAME PROBLEM!!! What are the chances???

We are about to take apart the original box and try fix the problem and following the advice on Largaider website http://www.largiader.com/tech/oiltrans/ hope to solve the issue. Trying to determine if I can upgrade it to a M97 box without to much trouble.

Any advice appreciated. Box-doctor?

Wat form do the 2nd gear dogs take? Are they stub v stub or stub in pocket? I have re-ground several gearbox gear dogs for motorcycles but never one for a BMW.

I'm not qualified to answer, though have heard they can be undercut. Hope someone can help here..

You don't happen to be close to the South Coast NSW by any chance??

No, I'm in Kent UK. I've looked online and seen a pic of a 2nd gear and it looks like a regular dog. Re-grinding these is a simple matter than anyone with access to a lathe and basic tools can achieve. I think I ground my first ever one using a mitre saw.

It's hardly the external gearlinkage sticking? Happened to me on my 1100S , dismantled and lubed , everything fine!
