Biscuit tin full of washers!

That is the sound coming from the vicinity of the standard cans on my R1100s when I ride over rough ground etc. It's fine the rest of the time.
It could be the heat shield attached too the cans (come loose in some way) but it sounds worse than I expect this would.

Anyone have experience of this or suggestions as to what it could be and how to fix?

Thanks for your help.

Not heard of that.

first i would check that the exhaust hangers still have their rubber sleeves intact, then jam some material between heatshield.

Possible that the baffle(s) have come loose inside the cans?

My old R1100S had loose parts inside the cat rattling around. German BMW mechanic said it was a known problem and I replaced the cat with a Y piece.

If it's the cat, I've got one from the single spark 11s (at least I think it is - it's a different part number to the cat on my BCR)

Thanks guys.
That CAT has been removed on my bike.
I'll check the exhaust hangers and heat shield.
Karl.
