Screech & hot knee

Good morning all.

I have a couple of questions about my bike - its a 1999 r1100s with 45k miles.

1. It makes a screeching noise on start-up (mostly when cold), while the starter is engaged and sometimes for a few seconds after settling at idle -- would this be a loose/worn auxiliary drive belt ??

2. The bike has always made a clattering noise from the right cylunder for a few seconds on startup - is this normal?

3. A new issue today - after a ten mile commute this morning the right side fairing got quite warm - the area roughly between the sear and cylinder just where the right knee rests with feet in the pegs. I vaguely remember seeing a fuse box somewhere under there near the fuel tank - is this something i should worry about and check out asap?

Many thanks

KD

2. Left cyl cam chain tensioner clatters a bit until it fills with oil. It gets worse if oil level is low. There's threads on it on this forum.
Motorworks has parts to get rid of this noise.

The screeching could well be the alternator belt a bit slack. A new one should cure it.
Are both headers the same colour?
There is some sort of tape available that you could put on each cylinder head to show the temepature each runs at.
Might be too lean. Or the other side too rich!

1) screeching sound could be a starter motor than needs cleaning/greasing as it stays engaged a bit longer than needed.
