cable speedo drive conversion

Postby StuRC45 » Thu Oct 23, 2014 11:58 pm

Re' my toasted R1100S build, I'm looking towards a very minimalist look and want a 50s style single 7" round headlamp with integral speedo, no other instruments.
At first glance it looks like the most economical way to do this would be to first convert the bike back to cable speedo (as the bike doesn't currently have the electronic speedo sensor or any instruments) so first question:

Does anyone know if the R1100S front wheel will take the drive dog ring 36312333509 (as used in the R1150RT) without modification.

These front wheels look identical to those used on the R1150R, R1150RS, R1150RT and K1200RS & LT but list under different part numbers so while they look to use essentially the same bearings, spindle set up I'm wondering if they are all machined the same internally?

This would be to work with either the 2.6:1 cable speedo drive 62127650348 from an R1150RT (and the shaft seal 36312312287 from the same) or there is a similar set up listed for R1100RT/RS, so second question:

Does anyone know if either or both of the available 2.6:1 speedo drives will line up to the locating lugs on the inside of the R1100S L/H fork leg or if there would be any other issues?

The third option:
I'd also read a post on ADV regarding the 17" wheel conversions for the R1150GS and the general wisdom seems to be not to go with 17" wheel 2.6:1 drive at all as the readings are around 10% out but to use the 2.875:1 ratio drive (6212230653) instead to correct this.

So, knowing this speedo drive definitely works with the R1100S and R1150GS style fork leg and matches up to the R1150RT drive dog ring (as it's the same one used on the R1150GS) would this be the better option (assuming I don't need to change or modify the front wheel in the first place)?

Any thoughts/advise greatly appreciated :?
