I can buy a semi wrecked HP2 and was thinking about re-building it for a track bike. If I'm not mistaken it's based on the R1200, so I'm wondering if the frame and engine block are interchangeable. There is damage to the frame, engine and front end and all the fairing etc.
I was thinking about getting a R1200S engine and doing big bore kit upgrade and using anything worth keeping from the HP2.
R1200 and HP2

Hi
From your description it sounds like all the really good bits are damaged.
Engine, bodywork( carbon fibre) front end(forks/brakes)
Is the engine repairable?
Frames can be repaired or a r1200s frame can be adapted to take HP2 s parts.
Most things are interchangeable between the two bike. Some with a bit of modification.
To be honest it sounds like a lot of hassle and a lot of expense to do what your suggesting. Getting the HP2 s back together would be very very expensive as new spares are expensive and second hand parts are rare and expensive!!!
All this of course depends on the salvage price. If it's stupidly cheap and there are is a chance of rebuilding the bike if it's not too damaged for a cost a lot cheaper than getting a good undamaged HP2s , then maybe.
A 1200s with a few mods will make a great track bike.
Have you a link to the damaged bike showing pics?
All the best

I'd have thought even R1200S bits are quite rare.... except the engine which is shared (mostly) with the RT/R/GS versions.
The crown jewel of the HP2 is the engine though... of it's wrote off, it's probably not worth the hastle....

so ,,, front end is gone ,, along with the frame , and engine , and bodywork ,,, all that leaves is half a wiring loom a tail light and a back wheel ,, and probably reccorded as a right off , so no log book ,,, to my mind it would have to be cheap...............
still interesting to see a pic though
