inductive signal transmitter

Postby markmwd » Sun Feb 27, 2005 10:43 am

I have just tried to remove the inductive signal transmitter for cleaning on the rear wheel hub and the allen screw/bolt has sheared. The unit is still secure to the hub, but my concerns are obviously future removal for cleaning. what are my options, will it cost me an arm and a leg to sort the problem out. How important is it to clean the above item, (every oil change according to the maual). What does this unit do? Who can do it?

Your opinions would be most welcome.

Is that the 5mm fecker into the hub at the top? That's the speedo pickup (unless you're talking about the ABS sensor but that's got 2 bolts)

My speedo one sheared about 18months ago. I had it drilled but the bloke put an M6 thread in, and a 6mm bolt wont pass through the 5mm hole in the speedo drive. Mine has just been push fitted ever since and has probably done 25k like it without a problem.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it (but then my bike is rapidly turning into a push fitted/lashed/gaffered/cable tied piece of kinetic art.

If you pry off the inductive pickup you may find that there is enough thread sticking out to get a pair of mole grips on, if there is liberally apply plus gas spray for a day or two before attempting to remove the stud.

Note use Plus Gas not WD 40

Thanks for the information, wasn't really sure what the things place in life was to be honest. Now I know I suppose it would be OK to leave it till it goes in for the next service.

Thanks for your replies.
