HID Kits

Postby Al » Sun May 05, 2013 2:39 pm

Thinking about fitting a HID kit to to the bike and been looking at prices, car kits are lot cheaper(less than half the price) than bike kits and you get two of everything, ie a spare. What is the difference if any?

I bought a car kit a good few years back when they were expensive , haven't needed any spares yet.. The only choice really is what "temperature" you choose. The one I got is 5000k

Why? Do you do a lot of riding in the dark? how old are your existing bulbs? they do go off you know, it is no fluke that new cars/ bikes seem to have brighter lights. These aftermarket kits can cause more problems than they solve. Keep your wedge in yer pocket man!

I've got 6000k head and dip on my 11s. Wouldn't be without em. Plug 'n' Play. You'll just need a lot of cable ties. Some probs tho; On the 11s the bulbs are different. Low is H1, High is H7. I told the company (Hawk) who supplied mine and they sent a kit with the correct bulbs. The other thing is that the lights are not individually adjustable (on the 1100s) so, if like me you like the head light set slightly high you may find you're dazzling approaching vehicles so setting is crucial. Also, whilst ( handily) the dip is on full time, switching to head, the bulb takes a few seconds to come up to full output if it's been off for more than a few minutes so you may choose Dai's preference and leave the OE H/L bulb in-situ. Well worth the upgrade tho. I intend to convert my 'blade to double head/double dip next autumn.

Go for it! Nick.

Thanks for the replies, I don`t do a lot of riding in the dark but came across woodbury common last night after a day out and remembered how bad the lights are, so for £20 it seems the way to go.

I should have said i went for the 30 or 35 watt one i can't remember which they are but it's fine and works well for the dip as the reflector is the projector type
The beam pattern is spot on according to the MOT lighting check
