Never the less:

Video of the bike cutting out

Video of the bike's poor idling

My bike has done both of these things.

One of the cures seemed to be adjusting the micro switch for the clutch lever. I found even if it sounded like the switch was opening/closing, it was intermittent and had to be adjusted.

But I really think you have the problem solved with a bad stepper motor.

Cheers

These symptoms for me were cured when the valve clearances were adjusted. Twice in the 90,000 miles, these symptoms appeared and both times the valve clearances were the cure. As they are so easy to check, I always head for these first followed by stick coils.

Valve clearances were fine, it's only a 25.000 mile bike and regardless, valve clearances shouldn't make it randomly cut out.

microswitch I can buy (mine's actually not working at all, I can't start with stand down, gear in and clutch pressed. But the cutting out only came after increasingly rougher idling where it got to a point where it just couldn't run smoothly any longer if I idled so in my case that's unlikely to have contributed to the issue.

Seems to be purring quite nicely from the very short start up and ride into my garage
New left side hand con rod, piston and rings
2 new left hand side exhaust valves and guides
new big end shells for both sides
2 new O2 sensors
Obviously gaskets and associated bolts for con rod
Oil and filter change
front timing cover oil leak sorted and new front seal.......think thats it and nowt the matter with injectors and/or stepper motors - knew it would be a quick fix!!!

How did you cause all that damage to the engine?

Intriguing!

You’d have to think a dropped valve, which causes conrod damage - would make the bike unridable rather than ‘lumpy’

Bearing and ring seizure - from complete lubrication loss (with one side retaining a film?)

What did the workshop say, Dave?
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

Intriguing is the right word Al - I thought the problem was solved with changing a coil - smoothest tick over it had ever had - took it out and thought it was sorted, then fuel light came on and it really started running like a bag of $hite. Bit of a mystery really

They have some theories but nothing concrete
